Echo & The Bunnymen - The Killing Moon

One of the prettiest songs of all time, Echo & The Bunnymen's 1984 single "The Killing Moon" has been covered by many. Why, I have yet to understand. It's one of the perfect recordings in pop music, never bettered, and it probably never will be. The latest in a well-meant, but basically sorry run of tries, is by Matthew Sweet and Susanna Hoffs who have recorded it for their latest instalment in their Under The Covers series. Earlier versions have been done by Grant-Lee Phillips, Nouvelle Vague and others, but there has been no real point to any of these versions. Ian McCulloch's voice and Will Sergeant's guitar renders anything else pretty much useless and makes "The Killing Moon" one of "the impossibles", a song you should just enjoy as it is.

Watch and listen
