Bryan Ferry - Miss Otis Regrets

In 1999 Bryan Ferry released As Time Goes By, a very fine album of old jazz standards and other popular songs, including this incredibly moving take on Cole Porter's classic "Miss Otis Regrets". The song tells the story of the society lady Miss Otis' last moments as told by her servant after she has been snubbed by a lover, then shot him, and in return hung from an old willow by a lynch mob. The servant conveys her final. polite words to her friends: "Miss Otis regrets she's unable to lunch today." Now, that's what I call storytelling!
