New jack swing was a sub-genre to hip-hop, popular in the late 80's/early 90's, and spearheaded by producer Teddy Riley. Most artists linked to the new jack swing phenomenon are "lighter" ones, such as Keith Sweat, Bell Biv Devoe and even Color Me Badd, but a few hardcore acts like Ice-T also got involved. "New Jack Hustler" was featured on the soundtrack to the film New Jack City in which he starred, and also appeared on his groundbreaking gangsta rap album O.G. Original Gangster. As usual, Ice-T's social commentary is worth listening to.
