The Teardrop Explodes was a Liverpudlian post-punk band that released two albums, Kilimanjaro and Wilder, in 1980 and 1981 respectively. "Treason" is from the former, one of the many great pop songs to appear on that album. The band was fronted by Julian Cope who went on to enjoy a rather successful solo career before veering off the trodden path to do loads of stranger stuff., i.e. whatever the hell he pleases.
