Dayna Kurtz - Left Alone

The American singer/songwriter and, lest we forget, interpreter, Dayna Kurtz is largely unknown. She's an excellent act though, spreading her talent out on a palette consisting of jazz, soul, blues and pop music. Her take on Billie Holiday's "Left Alone" (co-written by Mal Waldron) is a case in point, a mesmerizing vocal performance, understated and at the same time incredibly powerful, aided by an extremely tasteful arrangement. This is smoky barroom jazz at its very best, taken from Kurtz's 2004 album Beautiful Yesterday.
