Ylvis - Massachusetts

"The Fox", at the time of writing this at 148 million YouTube viewings, has turned Norwegian comedy act Ylvis into international superstars, surprisingly for everyone, and probably most of all, for the boys themselves, Bård and Vegard Ylvisåker. Now, to counteract the success which have gained them access to US television shows like The Ellen DeGeneres Show and Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, they have made a new video and song called "Massachusetts", ending in a very non-PC sequence where they basically say it's really OK to be gay and kiss other men - and more. I don't think that's really what America expects of these two good-looking Norwegians, so let's see if it somehow backfires on them. If so, I'm pretty sure that's intentional. For good measure, the boys have enlisted their sidekick Calle Hellevang-Larsen. And let me also add, this is nowhere near as good a song as "The Fox" actually is, but it's great fun. The best comedy act since Flight Of The Conchords? Hell yeah!

Gwen Sebastian - The Fox (Ylvis cover)

Ylvis' comedy song "The Fox" har become a worldwide phenomenon, prompting musicians (and non-musicians) around the world to record their own versions. The best I've heard so far is this bluegrass version by country music singer/songwriter Gwen Sebastian. The novelty aspect is of course intact, but it's interesting and exciting to hear an arrangement like this - so different from the original - that works so well. The video is pretty funny to. This one's a keeper.

Ylvis - The Fox

Norwegian comedy group Ylvis is at it again. Their new television show starts next week, and as they do from time to time, they write and record humurous and parodic songs, and make hilarious faux music videos to accompany them. After only three days the new song "The Fox" has garnered more than 1,7 million hits on YouTube, prompting commentators to suggest that this will be the next "Gangnam Style". Well, what do I know? It's certainly funny, and in some strange way, it's also a pretty good song. We have a hit on our hands, boys!

Tenacious D - Tribute

Jack Black and Kyle Gass are comedy rock band Tenacious D, and amazingly they have recorded a song that will stand forever as a true rock classic. The wonderfully idiotic "Tribute" (2002) tells the story of how the pair meet a demon who urges them to "play the best song in the world" or else he'll eat their souls. Musically the song is a perfect blend of Led Zeppelin and Metallica, but with the added pleasure of great comedy. The video is also fantastic.

Fancy a laugh? Watch this Chinese Bad Romance cover

I know. It's not nice to laugh at well-meaning people, but sometimes it's a bit hard not to. Here's a truly bizarre Chinese version of Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance" as performed by a group of elders, in honour of their kids who have moved out. Check it out!
