Let's hear it for Scottish duo Associates, performing their wonderful song "Club Country" on Top Of The Pops back in 1982. The song, off the landmark Sulk album, is a perfect showcase for Billy MacKenzie's unbelievable voice, and a true post-punk classic. It's a sad thing that great success eluded MacKenzie and cohort Alan Rankine, but there you go. The world can be an unjust place. MacKenzie eventually took his own life after several failed attempts at going it alone. His voice is one of pop history's most characteristic, there's really never been anything quite like it. Hear for yourself.
