Simple Minds - Don't You (Forget About Me)

Simple Minds used to write their own songs, thank you very much, and that may have been why they initially turned down this song just like Cy Curnin (from The Fixx), Bryan Ferry and Billy Idol had done. It was written by Keith Forsey (who'd won an Oscar for Irene Cara's "Flashdance... What A Feeling") and Nina Hagen guitarist and songwriter Steve Schiff. However, Simple Minds changed their mind after their American record company A&M persuaded them, and if they've ever regretted the decision, it's not because it hasn't made them any money. It was a huge worldwide hit, the band's biggest by far, and paved way for a kind of success they'd just been hinting at earlier. It was the theme song for the John Hughes fiilm The Breakfast Club, and the song will forever be linked to this. Billy Idol recorded the song for a greatest hits album in 2001. You're right, it did not achieve any success - whatsoever!
