This was probably the first successful meeting of rock and hip-hop. Run-D.M.C. perfectly worked the Aerosmith classic into their own composition, blending two different musical styles into something new, with the help of Aerosmith's Steven Tyler and Joe Perry. The project was the brainchild of maverick producer Rick Rubin, and was a huge hit when released in 1986. Sadly the song was influential enough to spawn a lot of bastard children during the years, not all of them very pretty. The worst results are probably the entire careers of Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park. Nevertheless, I wouldn't be without this version of "Walk This Way", and the video is fantastic too.
