The Human League - The Black Hit Of Space

Before Philip Oakey went on to become a huge pop star with Human League and the Dare album in 1981, the band featured Martin Ware and Ian Craig Marsh as his musical collaborators. The latter two formed Heaven 17 with singer Glenn Gregory due to the lack of success with Human League, and Oakey of course soldiered on but with new members. But the band's first two albums, 1979's Reproduction and 1980's Travelogue, were intriguing records, featuring some very interesting electronic music. "The Black Hit Of Space" is the opening track of the latter and one of many great and mostly unknown early Human League songs. At the same time a psychedelic and futuristic musical experience about the strangest record player you've ever encountered. Or something... it's a strange song indeed!
