A lazy shuffle, a trip hop beat, a few well-placed piano trills, a narrator with a country twang and a big ass chorus - what have you got? Shawn Mullins with his 1998 hit "Lullaby". Having released records independently for close to a decade at the time, all of a sudden he was thrust into a world that was entirely alien to him, opening for acts like Backstreet Boys and Destiny's Child. He proved to be a good old-fashioned one-hit wonder though, and now he's back to playing smaller clubs and making records that sell moderately, probably also being more comfortable with that. And he really did make his mark with "Lullaby". It's a song that couldn't be anything but a big hit.
