How stupid can pop music be and get away with it? Girls Aloud is up there with Spice Girls and Sugababes, and if you take them seriously, you lose. Featuring the dubious talents of the undeniably hot Cheryl Cole and "friends", Girls Aloud's music is hit-oriented to the extreme, and as a "group" they're in every way a product. That doesn't mean it's not a lot of fun, as "Long Hot Summer" attests to. It was originally recorded for inclusion in the Disney vehicle Herbie: Fully Loaded in 2005, but the deal never came through. Eventually it appeared as the first single off their third album Chemistry, and is, quite frankly, a killer pop song!
