"Golden Years" is from David Bowie's 1976 album Station To Station, a recording of which he remembers absolutely nothing, due to his excessive drug use. After the 1975 album Young Americans where he started exploring American soul and funk, he made this transitional album, paving the way for the more electronically coloured Berlin trilogy. The funky "Golden Years" was the obvious choice for first single from Station To Station and turned out to be a big hit.
