Tim Buckley's 1970 song "Song To The Siren" is one of those strange and hauntingly beautiful compositions that just seem out of this world. If not before, that was definitely the case when Elizabeth Fraser sang it with the 4AD "supergroupu" This Mortal Coil in 1983. Now George Michael has recorded it as a B-side to his current single "White Light", and while there's nothing actually wrong with it, it doesn't strike me as... well, I guess the word I'm looking for is "necessary".
