A while ago British tabloid The Sun reported that Paul McCartney were recording a new album with rerecordings of some of his old songs, as well as covers by - among others - Kiss, Billy Joel and The Cure. As I suspected this was nothing near the truth. However, Sir Paul recently spoke to Rolling Stone magazine and said that indeed he is working on a covers album, for release some time next year. It will be an album featuring pop standards from the pre-rock era. "It's my dad's style of music", he says. In other words, no Kiss or The Cure.
McCartney is also writing some new material for an album of what he describes as "heavier rock", partly inspired by a conversation with Dave Grohl about how he recorded the latest Foo Fighters album in a garage. "You never know - I may run into a garage to make this other album. But it won't be in Dave's garage", he says. Read the full report here.
