Noir Désir - Le vent nous portera

The French band Noir Désir abruptly had to call it quits when lead singer Bertrand Cantat was accused and found guilty of beating his girlfriend, actress Marie Trintignant, to death in a hotel room in Lithuania. This was in 2003, and he was sentenced to eight years in prison, served one in Lithuania and was transferred to a French prison where he was released on parole in 2007. The band got together again and recorded a few tracks but last year they were officially disbanded. I don't care that much about their musical legacy, but "Le vent nous portera" is one of the best French pop songs I've ever heard. It's the lead single from their last album, des Visages des Figures (2001). It features Manu Chao as a guest on guitar and he makes it sound like a perfect summer day looking out across the ocean with a chilled glass of rosé wine. The video won a French video of the year award.
