Vocal group The Four Tops was the quintessential male Motown group (whereas The Supremes was the quintessential female Motown group), with a string of carefree, wonderful, life-affirming and joyful pop songs "disguised" as soul music. Most of their hits were written by the hit-making trio Holland-Dozier-Holland, which is of course also the case with the 1966 smash "Reach Out I'll Be There". Perfect melody, perfect harmonies, perfect Motown.
