In the third window of Erik's musical Advent calendar you'll find the wonderful Swedish tenor Jussi Björling singing "O helga natt" (1959) as if his life depended on it. The song is originally French, titled "Le Cantique de Noël", and was written by Adolphe Adam in 1847 to Placide Cappeau's poem "Minuit, chrétiens", and has been translated to many different languages. The English language version is of course the famous "Oh Holy Night", written by the American John Sullivan Dwight in 1855. In Norway and in Björling's native Sweden, his version is considered the definitive one. If there is no sign of Jussi belting out "O helga natt", you can just as well cancel Christmas altogether.
