"Hello darkness, my old friend". One of the best opening lines in pop music, "The Sound Of Silcence" was written in 1964 by Paul Simon in the aftermath of the JFK assassination on November 22nd 1963. The song first appeared as an acoustic number on the album Wednesday Morning 3 A.M. but was wisely overdubbed with more instruments - without the duo's knowledge. Also, originally it was called "The Sounds Of Silence", and later renamed "The Sound Of Silence". All this aside, it's basically a fantastic pop song with a beautiful lyric.
