Scritti Politti - Tinseltown To The Boogiedown

Green Gartside of Scritti Politti has always been doing his own thing. The Welsh born singer/songwriter has enjoyed modest success both in the UK and the USA for a number of years, although there have been few hits and never any shots at world domination. From their 1982 debut Songs To Remember until now, Scritti Politti have only released five albums, and just a few weeks ago, their first compilation, Absolute. A brilliant thing, by the way. "Tinseltown To The Boogiedown" (1999) is of course on it, a track featuring rappers Mos Def and Lee Majors as well as Green's own gentle breeze of a voice, but only present on the chorus. It wasn't a hit, but it should've been. A great funk/hip hop track.
