Richie Valens died in an airplane accident alongside Buddy Holly and The Big Bopper on February 3rd 1959, referred to as "the day the music died" by Don McLean in his famous song "American Pie". "Donna" was the second single released in his lifetime, in 1958, and is covered here by Los Lobos in the film La Bamba (1987). The song "La Bamba" is his most popular tune however, a rock'n'roll reworking of an old Mexican folk song, sung entirely in Spanish, and it was originally the B-side of the "Donna" single. Valens only got to be 17 years old.
