Neil Young's forthcoming album A Letter Home (May 26) is described as "an unheard collection of rediscovered songs from the past recorded on ancient electro-mechanical technology", and the songs in question are by Bob Dylan, Tim Hardin, Willie Nelson, Bruce Springsteen, Phil Ochs, Gordon Lightfoot and others. British folk legend Bert Jansch's classic heroin song "Needle Of Death" is the first song to be released from the album, a beautiful countrified version with only Neil Young and an acoustic guitar. The video and the music are both consciously scratchy, as Young and Jack White recorded the album acoustic and directly to vinyl, at White's label Third Man Records' 1940s phone-booth-size studio. A Letter Home will be released as a giga-sized box set as well as other, more "normal" formats.
