Last year songwriter and lead singer Tim Smith decided to quit his band Midlake in the midst of recording their fourth album. Instead of giving up, the rest of the band moved on without him, and guitarist and backing vocalist Eric Pulido stepped up to the plate. A few weeks ago the finished result was released, a wonderful record called Antiphon. It's surprisingly good, featuring two new members to the line-up, and to quote allmusic.com the album sounds a bit like "Fleet Foxes meet Meddle-era Pink Floyd". "The Old And The Young" is the most accessible song on an album that is pretty exciting and finds Midlake in great form, even without Smith.
