Mud - "Lonely This Christmas"
"Lonely This Christmas" by 70's glam rockers Mud is one of my favourite ever Christmas pop songs. A cheesy Elvis-inspired ballad dripping with self-pity and sorrow, it perfectly nails heartbreak during the holiday season. Singer Les Gray sings the Nicky Chinn/Mike Chapman composition beautifully and took it to number one on the UK singles chart when it was released in 1974.
