"Come To My Aid" is the opening track on Simply Red's 1985 debut Picture Book, and the second single to be released from it. As first single, their brilliant cover of The Valentine Brothers' "Money's Too Tight (To Mention)", "Come To My Aid" is a heartfelt anti-Thatcher song, disguised as blue-eyed soul. But the angry edge to Mick Hucknall's brilliant voice is unmistakeble. That Simply Red lost some of this edge as the years passed is true, but they were a band that was unjustly ridiculed at the time, by me as well as a lot of other people. "Come To My Aid" is a killer song!
