Summer is more or less upon us, at least in theory, and the sun does shine quite a lot these days even if it's not very warm. That calls for a little celebration in the form of one of the best summer tunes ever to be recorded. "Summertime" opens with the command "Drums please" before launching into a soft, lazy, laidback and utterly cool groove, based upon Kool & The Gang's "Summer Madness". This however, is DJ Jazzy Jeff and the far more famous The Fresh Prince (or Will Smith as most people know him), and in 1991 the popular duo struck gold with this song. The lyrics follow the preparations of a perfect barbecue party, and you can basically smell the sizzling meat, cool drinks, and so forth. This is pretty much as good as a summer song can get, a true classic.
